Experiencing Alerting failure for Availability Data Type – 05/19 – Resolved

We’ve confirmed that all systems are back to normal with no customer impact as of 05/18, 03:20 UTC. Our logs show the incident started on 05/18, 01:50 UTC and that during the 1 hour 30 minutes that it took to resolve the issue Some customers who have availability monitors configured in Ashburn location would have experienced failures in loading Availability web test results in Azure Portal.
  • Root Cause: The failure was due to issues with one of the back end service.
  • Incident Timeline: 1 Hours & 30 minutes – 05/18, 01:50 UTC through 05/18, 03:20 UTC

We understand that customers rely on Application Insights as a critical service and apologize for any impact this incident caused.

We are aware of issues within Application Insights and are actively investigating. Some customers may experience failures loading Availability web test results in Azure Portal. Only customers who have availability monitors configured in Ashburn location are affected. The following data types are affected: Availability. 
  • Work Around: customers should ensure their availability tests are running from at least three locations to ensure redundant coverage.Please refer to the following article on how to configure availability web tests: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/app-insights-monitor-web-app-availability/
